The physical and mechanical properties of wood mainly include three aspects: moisture content, strength and wet expansion and shrinkage:

When the wood is in the air with a certain temperature and humidity for a long time, it will reach a relatively stable moisture content, and the evaporation and absorption of moisture tend to be balanced to achieve a balanced moisture content. The equilibrium moisture content changes with the temperature and relative humidity of the atmosphere. The moisture content of wood in the north is about 12%, the moisture content of wood in the south is about 18%, and the moisture content of wood in the Yangtze River basin is about 15%. (2) Strength: The strength of the wood is related to the thick cells in the wood that bear external forces. The greater the number of such cells, the thicker the cell wall, the higher the strength. (3) Wet swelling and shrinkage: The wood has remarkable wet swelling and shrinkage. When the wood is dried from the wet state to the fiber saturation point, its size does not change; when it continues to dry, when the adsorbed water in the cell wall evaporates, volume shrinkage occurs. Conversely, dry wood absorbs moisture and will expand in volume until the moisture content reaches saturation point. (1) Plywood: Plywood is a man-made board that is manufactured by using raw logs to spin-cut or wood-slicing thin skins and using the corner residue generated during the wood processing process. It is a three-layer or more-thick board made of veneer logs and sliced ​​veneer. Plywood generally has an odd number of layers. The mechanical properties of plywood are good. Under the same quality, the strength ratio of plywood is large. For example, 2mm thick plywood can replace 12mm thick wood. Plywood is composed of three or more layers of veneers interlaced in vertical and horizontal directions, which overcomes the shortcomings of uneven wood structure, improves the anisotropy of wood, reduces the strength difference of wood in vertical and horizontal directions, and reduces dryness and deformation.

(2) Blockboard (large core board): Blockboard, commonly known as large core board in the industry. The large core board is formed by sticking and splicing wooden boards between two single boards. The price of the large core board is cheaper than that of the thin core board, and its vertical (differentiated by the core material direction) bending strength is poor, but the transverse bending strength is higher. The middle of the blockboard is a core made of natural wood strips, and thin wood veneers are glued on both sides. It can be used for furniture, wooden doors and door covers, heating covers, curtain boxes, etc. Its water and moisture resistance is better than particle board and MDF. (3) MDF: (medium density fiberboard) fiberboard is an artificial board made of lignocellulosic fibers interwoven and formed using its inherent adhesive properties. Adhesives and / or additives are applied during the manufacturing process. It has the advantages of uniform material, small vertical and horizontal strength difference, not easy to crack, easy to shape and so on. The disadvantage is that the quality is large, the nail holding force is poor, and it is not resistant to moisture.

It uses wood fiber (bark, wood shavings, branches, etc.) as the main raw material, and applies urea-formaldehyde resin or other synthetic resin through fiber separation and immersion, milling, molding, drying, hot pressing and other processes. Pressed under heat and pressure. According to the density, hardness and bending ability of the board, the fiberboard is divided into three types: rigid fiberboard, semi-rigid fiberboard and soft fiberboard.

Density between 450-750kg / m3 is medium density fiberboard. Density above 750 kg / m3 can be called high-density fiberboard.

Warpage: ≤5mm per meter. When the thickness is less than 16mm, the warpage is not measured. This warpage is the international standard. Advantages: The structure is not only more uniform than that of natural wood, but also completely avoids the corrosion of knots and insects; the swelling and shrinkage is small, and it is easy to process;

Disadvantages: However, due to the different materials, the strength is poor and the nail holding force is worse than the particle board; the water absorption expansion rate is also higher than the particle board.

(4) Particleboard: It is a kind of artificial board made by drying the remaining chips and wood chips after processing, mixing with adhesive, hardener and waterproof agent at a certain temperature.

It is a plate pressed with wood shavings made of wood or non-wood plants with glue and auxiliary materials or without auxiliary materials. That is, it is made by mixing the scraps and rubber materials in wood processing and made by hot pressing, and its texture is second to that of MDF.

The warpage is between 0.7mm-1mm per meter, this warpage is a national standard.

Advantages: good processing performance; easy to realize automation and continuous; uniform structure, good sound absorption and sound insulation effect.

Disadvantages: uneven density; rough edge of particle board, easy to absorb moisture and deformation; high requirements for edge banding equipment.

(5) Solid wood compression board: The manufacturing principle is similar to particle board, the difference is that the raw materials used are different. The raw materials used are the wood chips of the better northern tree species (such as wood, linden wood, color wood, etc.). The wood chips have uniform particles, and the texture is hard, easy to process, not easy to deform, and has strong moisture resistance. The chipboard wood, wood residue, peanut skin, bagasse, etc.

In terms of physical properties, the solid wood compression board has the advantages of stronger nail holding force, smaller moisture absorption deformation, less deformation and stronger impact resistance.

3. Wood veneer: The solid wood veneer furniture is usually made of artificial board as the base material, and the thin skin of the precious tree species is used as the veneer on the surface of the base material.
